Die Polka française «Feuerfest» von Josef Strauss erklang zum ersten Male am 13. März 1869 bei einem Betriebsfest der Alt-Wiener Firma Wertheim: Die gesamte Belegschaft,- Direktoren, Arbeiter, Kontoristinnen und Fuhrleute,- hatte sich in den Blumensälen der Gartenbau-Gesellschaft an der noch im Bau begriffenen Ringstraße eingefunden, um den Verkauf der 20.000. eisernen Kasse zu feiern. Die Kassen galten als «feuerfest» - auf diese Eigenschaft ihres Produkts wies die Firma in ihrer groß angelegten Werbung stets besonders hin - und so ergab sich der Titel der Widmungskomposition von Josef Strauss von selbst. In der Coda klingen die Schmiedehämmer einer versunkenen Epoche noch heute nach.
