One of ten compositions that Josef Strauss composed for the Carnival season of 1866 was the quick polka For ever. The reason for the English title is not known, but Josef Strauss may have been speculating about a guest appearance in London. For the same Carnival season he had also prepared a Pariser-Quadrille (Parisian Quadrille), based on French songs. After all, he and his brother Johann had sounded out the possibilities for giving concerts at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867 and perhaps also for making a visit to England.
