In April and May 1866 there were numerous performances of a pantomime ballet in two acts by F. Markwort, with music composed by Friedrich von Flotow, at the Harmonie-Theater in Vienna. One of the roles in it is ‘The Dragonfly with the name Dorlores’. It may have been this ballet that inspired Josef Strauss to write a polka mazurka in which the flight of the dragonfly and the whirring sound of its wings are depicted and made audible with musical means.
