Aleksandra Szmyd is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków in the class of Prof. Ryszard Karczykowski and the Music and Musik und Kunst Universität Wien with Prof. Linda Watson, completing both programs with distinction. She further pursued postgraduate vocal studies at the Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien under the Professor Claudia Visca. In February 2022, she was awarded second prize at the international bel canto opera competition Competizione dell’Opera. Earlier, in August 2021, she was a prizewinner at the 12th International Elena Obraztsova Opera Competition, where she also received a special distinction. Aleksandra has portrayed a wide range of operatic roles. At the Klosterneuburg Festival, she appeared as Musetta in “La Bohème”. She also sang Gilda in “Rigoletto” in Bad Schwalbach, and Clorinda in “La Cenerentola” in collaboration with the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. She performed as Frasquita in “Carmen” at the Oper im Steinbruch festival in St. Margarethen, and as Pamina in “Die Zauberflöte” at the Warsaw Chamber Opera. Her most recent operatic debut was in the title role of Violetta in “La Traviata” at both the Sofia National Opera and the Landestheater Detmold. In July, she made her debut at the Domplatz Open-Air Festival “Tonkünstler-Freunde” with repertoire from Bernstein’s “Candide” and “West Side Story”. She has also appeared with the Müncher Symphoniker at the Brunnenhof der Residenz in Munich and at the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts, performing a program of Italian bel canto. She has performed with the Tonkünstler Orchestra at New Year’s concerts across Austria and a notable appearance at the Musikverein in Vienna. Aleksandra has performed at the iSING! Festival under the patronage of Plácido Domingo. She sang as a soloist with the Suzhou Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra at the Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre, and with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Yu Long at the Shanghai Symphony Hall. These performances were broadcast globally via Medici TV. She also appeared at the Grand Hangzhou Theatre. Additional operatic roles include the title role in Handel’s “Alcina” at the MuTh Theatre in Vienna, Susanna in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” in co-production with the Summer Academy of Vienna Philharmonic, and a performance in Bernstein’s “Candide” at the Vienna Opera “Theater an der Wien”. Aleksandra Szmyd has received wide recognition both as a classical singer and a pianist. She was a semi-finalist in the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, gold medalist at Musicale de France, third prize winner at the Giulio Perotti International Singing Competition in Germany, and Grand Prix laureate of the “Kiepura Fest” in Sosnowiec for her original pop composition. She is also a recipient of a scholarship from the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education, awarded for her outstanding artistic achievements.
